Timothy L. Cox, DDS a native of Illinois, graduated from University of Illinois College of Dentistry. After completing a two-year hospital dental residency at Medical Center of Louisiana (Charity Hospital) in New Orleans, he served as Assistant Director of the dental residency program at St. John’s Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis. He later joined a group dental practice and served on the medical staff at St. Louis University Health Sciences Center. In 1996, he accepted a position as Director of the hospital dental residency at Meriter Hospital in Madison, WI. In December of 1999, he joined the Department of Oral Medicine at Carolinas Medical Center and served as Director of the hospital dental residency where he taught dental residents and provided oral health care for medically compromised patients for 7 years. Since December 2006, he has been in private practice in the Charlotte area and maintains a medical staff appointment at Carolinas Medical Center. In January of 2010, he and Dr. Kyle Roth opened Carolina Dental Arts of Ballantyne Village. |

Throughout his career, Dr. Cox has sought advanced education in the field of dentistry. He attends numerous hours of continuing dental education each year and, as a result of these efforts, he has passed written and oral examinations, earning the following diplomas:
- Fellow, American Association of Hospital Dentists
- Member, Special Needs Dentistry, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh
- Diplomate, American Board of Special Care Dentistry.

Special Interests |

Devoted to education, Dr. Cox is a CPR instructor and has given lectures on topics such as oral and nitrous oxide sedation, operating room dentistry, surgical techniques, and dental care for patients with medical problems. His areas of special clinical interest include:
- Comprehensive oral health care for healthy and medically complex patients
- Sedation dentistry for patients with dental anxiety
- Hospital dentistry for patients with special medical needs that require dental services in the operating room.

Military/ Community Service |
|
Dr. Cox served in the Illinois Army National Guard, achieved the rank of 1st lieutenant in the Dental Corps, and was honorably discharged in 1994. In addition to dental practice, Dr. Cox donates his time and talents to those with limited means to receive needed dental care. He has volunteered for the NC Baptist Men’s Medical and Dental Bus and participates in the national “Give Kids a Smile Day” program offering free dental care to kids. |

He and his wife, Karen, have two children. An avid professional sports fan (hockey and football – go Panthers!), in his free time he enjoys outdoor sports (swimming, cycling, and golf) and various family activities, including travelling, movies, and hiking the Carolina mountains. |
